11.4% Functional Threshold Power Gain with Female Elite Mountain Bike Racer
Updated: Jan 3, 2020
This data is from early 2018 just after we started the BPL. Claire was recruited to be the subject of a Functional Threshold Power (FTP) study, which is a test looking at average wattage (power) output for 20 or 60 minutes. At the time she was a category 1 mountain bike racer who was actively training and racing.
Bellingham Performance Lab with Dr. Steve Noble
Duration: February 26, 2018 - March 23, 2018 (4 weeks)
Performance Lab sessions: Eleven 30 minute sessions
For those familiar with FTP testing they will see these gains are extraordinarily high and came very quickly.
Before BPL treatments:
215 (3.94 w/kg) watts for a 20 minute FTP test performed on February 24, 2018.
After first 6 BPL treatments:
229 watts (4.20 w/kg) for a 20 minute FTP test performed on March 9, 2018.
6.6% gain in power in just 2 weeks!
Claire had been a mid-pack finisher in the Cat. 1 mountain bike racer and she finished in 4th place in a race 2 weeks into the program-her best finish to date
After next 5 BPL treatments:
239 watts (4.39 w/kg) for a 20 minute FTP test performed on March 23, 2018
11.4% total gain in FTP over just 4 weeks!
